All You Need to Know About Kite Surfing

Did you know that Kite Surfing has been around for nearly 200 years? That's right. It doesn't seem like that old of a sport, but the earliest known usages of kite surfing was from a man named George Pocock, who sought to eliminate the need for horse power and instead use wind power to move carts and boats. He did this because, during that time, there was a tax levied on anyone who used a horse for any kind of moving purpose. By using the wind to move carts and boats, he could be exempt from the tax.
Since the 1970s, many have been trying to harness kite power for many different kinds of sports. From ice skates, snow skis, canoes, roller blades, water skis, and paragliding, people have been avid with trying to harness the wind’s power for recreational activities.
In 1977, a man named Gijsbertus Adrianus Panhuise got the first patent for the actual sport of kite surfing. He is considered to be the originator of the actual sport.
Needless to say, from that time forward, there have been many kite surfing companies that have sprung up. Every year there are new innovation made to the sport as it continues to gain popularity and participation. It is an activity with nearly 1.5 million participants, and that number continues to grow every year.
With so much innovation and popularity, it can be hard to know where to start. However I am going to let you know not only where to start, but where to take lessons, and what kind of gear to buy, so that you have the best start possible. Before you know it, you'll be catching some big air!
